BIO:
I just came to UMBC as the Chair of the Department of Education. My last position was as Associate Provost for Academic Services at St. Mary's College of Maryland, where, before moving into that role, I was Chair of Educational Studies for 10 years. I'm a former middle and high school teacher of English and drama, having certified at the College of William and Mary. I completed a masters degree at the University of Vermont and did my doctoral work in English education at the University of Virginia.

Young adult literature, more specicially, multicultural children's and young adult literature, and their role in the English language arts curriculum is my primary interest. Writing across the curriculum, inquiry-based teaching, service learning as a pedagogical strategy, and effective English language arts teacher education curriculum and instruction are also areas of interest.
Recent Publications:
*Teaching the Works of Katherine Paterson* - Heinemann/Boynton Cook, 2007 is my most recent book.
